About Laura

I have 20 years’ experience supporting charities and social impact organisations to build stronger volunteer movements and increase income from grants. I work across both volunteer involvement and fundraising, helping organisations take a joined-up, evidence-led approach to strategy, programme development, and sustainability.

Since launching my consultancy in 2018, I’ve supported over 60 organisations — from grassroots groups to international charities — to grow their income from trusts and foundations and strengthen their volunteer infrastructure. My clients have collectively raised over £10 million during this time, funding work that has expanded services, resourced volunteer management, and deepened impact.

Alongside consultancy and delivery, I regularly provide interim leadership, stepping in to lead volunteering and fundraising teams during periods of change. I also design and deliver training for organisations, boards, and networks — and frequently speak at national sector events. In 2025, I was the keynote speaker at the DSC Conference on the Future of Volunteering, and for the past four years, I’ve delivered the annual Volunteer Strategy Masterclass for the Association of Volunteer Managers.

“Laura is both highly educated and highly experienced in the charity sector – I’m not the only one who calls her a charity nerd! She maintains a super up-to-date knowledge of volunteering and volunteer management. Laura also brings high-level skills to governance and oversight.”

I’m committed to sharing insight that’s rooted in research and real-world practice. My work spans sectors including health, sport, heritage, justice, youth, veterans, infrastructure bodies, homelessness, and animal welfare.

I'm also actively engaged in strengthening the sector through collaboration. I'm an Associate Consultant with NCVO and the Association of Chairs, an Affiliate with Fundraising Everywhere, and a member of both the Association of Fundraising Consultants and Freelancers and Consultants for Good. I co-founded the Yorkshire Charity Consultants Group, a peer network for charity consultants across the region.

I hold an MSc in Charity Fundraising and Marketing and qualifications in Voluntary Sector Management, Governance, and Fundraising — and I’m always learning. I’m also a long-time trustee and active volunteer, with experience across a wide range of causes and organisational types.
